As part of a six-year agreement, Newcastle have signed Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock from the Gunners.

When the Magpies play West Ham on Sunday, the 21-year-old won’t be available, but he’ll be available for the away game against Aston Villa six days later.

After a good loan stint last season, the agreement is worth more than £20 million.

“I’m thrilled to be here today. My experience here last season was fantastic, so I’m thrilled to be returning “Willock summed up.

As Newcastle’s manager, Steve Bruce, explained: “I’m delighted that we’ve achieved our number one goal.

“In the end, Joe’s return was well worth the wait.

“A 21-year-old who scored seven goals in a row [on loan last season] and plays like him is hard to come by these days. Good job to everyone involved in getting it done.”

England With eight goals in the second half of last season, Willock, a 21-year-old international, helped Newcastle escape the relegation zone.

“I didn’t believe the transaction would materialise,” Bruce confessed after Arsenal rejected down a second loan offer from Manchester United.

However, he added that a permanent contract was “fantastic for us” and would help the club improve on last season’s 12th place result in the Premier League.
