Jack Grealish’s goal on his home debut helped Manchester City avenge their opening-day loss in spectacular fashion.

Both Manchester City and Norwich City had a point to make after losing their first game of the season. Grant Hanley’s attempted block cannoned towards his own goal, allowing the ‘Cityzens’ to score first. To make matters worse, VAR ruled the second goal out for Bernardo Silva’s foul in the buildup, and Pep Guardiola’s side scored again soon after.

Not long after, they had their second through new-man Jack Grealish. On his home debut, the former Aston Villa player scored a goal assisted by Gabriel Jesus’ low-ball. It was a frustrating first half for Norwich, who were seldom able to leave their own half.

It wasn’t much different in the second half, with Manchester City relentlessly chasing a third goal, which they scored. Aymeric Laporte calmly tapped home in the 64th minute after pinballing in the area following a corner kick.

Raheem Sterling made it four in the 70th minute, converting a free kick from Gabriel Jesus. Riyad Mahrez made it five with a calm finish into the bottom corner.

The champs cruised to victory, leaving Norwich defenceless.
